Cleaning Dragon Stone

I just wanted to make sure I'm doing everything right for the dragon stones I just got. I have rinsed them and brushed them several times, used a skewer to clean out as much clay as I can from the holes. I plan to pour boiling water on them in a bucket tomorrow and then brush and rinse once more, right now they are soaking overnight. Would this be sufficient cleaning for my stones? If I still see some red coloration coming off after brushing them should I continue until they rinse clean?

I had a heck of a time cleaning them...I brushed them as much as I can and at the end I was like...it looks fine.

I know the stone itself is inert, but correct me if I'm wrong the clay is not? Would the small amount of clay left in areas I cannot reach change my water parameters?

Clay will just increase mineral content. If you have plants, they'll enjoy them.

I just threw mine in the tank

I cleaned and scooped mine with wooden skewers and soaked for 3 weeks.

Not that necessary, but the orange clay coats everything if not. I also have a giant piece....

Okay thanks everyone. I have somewhat smaller pieces so I don't think the clay will change a lot and currently I have 1 plant but that's going to change soon.

Use a shower head with hard beam on the crevices.

Should I remove dragon stone from tank to clean if yes ..how often? I would love to have some in my tank. Tomorrow I'm going to store to buy some driftwood and rocks....must decide what to get. (75gallon)

Dragon stone is great and I love it in my tank but it does take alittle bit more cleaning than others. I took bamboo sticks and dug the clay out of mine, doubt I got it all but I did get most of it. I don't remove my rocks to clean them unless they start to get a lot of brown algae on them or if I move them I'll clean them. Sorry I didn't respond sooner, I didn't get a notification on this post. You'll get more responses if you create your own post as this one is alittle older.

Lava stone is also really porous so it'll hold some BB to help your cycle. Make sure you still wash it really well as some things might be in the holes.
